Bishnumati Clean-Up
In the first ever organized clean-up of the Bishnumati River, we collected a team of employees, temporary staff, volunteers, schools and local people. Everyone joined forces (over 500 in total) under the HOMES Nepal banner to spend 3 days in the river and around its banks removing all kinds of solid waste including; plastics, paper, cardboard, glass, metal and more.
Everyone was given safety equipment and we estimate that several hundred kilograms of waste was removed.
This project was supported by Kathmandu Municipality who not only provided some of the funds required to complete this project but they also provided their vehicles/fleet and waste disposal services to deal with the waste removed. In addition the Manamaiju and Gongabu VDCs (Village Development Committees) who’s areas the river runs through, also supported by the project.
The successful completion of this task meant that HOMES could do the first rafting on the Bishnumati seen for many years maybe ever. This proved extremely popular with local residents many of whom got the first chance in their lives to ride the river themselves.
